Epcot Sucks.
That about sums it up. I renturned from a much needed vacation on Wednesday, and really I can't complain about anything we did, the beach was wonderful, the weather nice and warm, the company and my family were fun. Yet, I was really dissapppointed that Disney's Epcot wasn't as lively as I expected. In fact, I thought it sucked.
Mission:Space was pretty good, I can see why people have died on that ride. It's not much of a ride really, it's a simulated indoor ride where your chest tightens and you get a little naseous riding it. All the while Gary Sinise is your mildy annoying space shuttle training instructor. There was another ride that I did like which was Soarin' where you were suspended in yet anotehr indoor ride (will they all eventually be indoor rides?) where it is simulated that your are soarin' above various California sites. I liked that one but maybe my interest is high because I am visiting California for the first time very soon. And then you have the countires. Ah yes, where you can get a taste, literally, of several foriegn countries' cuisine and shopping. I ate my way through Mexico, China, and picked up a wine spritzer in Germany. My friend asked why they didn't think to include Poland as one of the countries, my thoughts are that it would be the same reason Disney didn't include Iraq or Iran, we don't like them either. My favorite part of the trip was the beach. We ended up on the Atlantic side at New Smyrna Beach which is directly below Daytona. 85 degrees with a slight breeze, a very comfortable beach chair, a good existential book and my MP3 player is just like a slice of heaven in my eyes. In the Pittsburgh airport on the way home a funny thing happened, well almost happened, I was offered a bump to wait for the next plane into Erie in exchange for a free plane ticket anywhere in the continental US, well I debated about 2 minutes before I took it. But they didn't end up needing me anyway. My travel companion hedged longer than I did and I'm not sure why, but eventaully she gave in and took the offer too. Our later flight would have landed at 10:30 PM rather than 7:00 PM. To me 3 hours really didn't make much difference when they threw in a free dinner voucher. Then I was sold. But alas, apparently the other passengers didn't eat their way through foreign countries like I did and the plane ended up being proportionate weight.
